Replacement Keypad For Garage Door Opener
If the keypad for your garage door opener is damaged, lost, or stolen, you will need to replace it. Replacing a garage door opener keypad is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few steps.
Step 1: Gather your materials.
You will need the following materials to replace your garage door opener keypad:
- A new keypad
- A screwdriver
- Electrical tape
Step 2: Remove the old keypad.
Locate the screws that are holding the old keypad in place. Remove the screws and carefully pull the keypad away from the garage door opener.
Step 3: Disconnect the old keypad.
There will be two wires connected to the back of the old keypad. Disconnect the wires by pulling them straight out of the terminals.
Step 4: Connect the new keypad.
Connect the wires from the new keypad to the terminals on the garage door opener. Make sure that the wires are connected to the correct terminals. The positive wire should be connected to the positive terminal, and the negative wire should be connected to the negative terminal.
Step 5: Secure the new keypad.
Place the new keypad over the opening on the garage door opener. Secure the keypad in place with the screws that you removed in Step 2.
Step 6: Test the new keypad.
Enter your PIN into the new keypad to test it. The garage door should open if the keypad is working properly.
Tips
- If you have a rolling code garage door opener, you will need to program the new keypad before it will work.
- If you are not comfortable working with electrical wiring, you can hire a qualified electrician to replace your garage door opener keypad.
