Lining Up Garage Door Sensors
Garage doors are a great convenience, allowing you to get in and out of your garage without having to get out of your car. But if the sensors that detect when the door is closed aren't properly aligned, the door could open or close unexpectedly, posing a safety hazard.
To align the sensors, you'll need a screwdriver and a ladder. First, make sure that the door is closed. Then, locate the sensors on either side of the door. The sensors are usually located about six inches from the ground.
Use the screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the sensors in place. Once the screws are loose, you can move the sensors up or down until they are aligned. The sensors should be facing each other and should be about one inch apart. Also, check the light between the sensors. When the door is closed the light should be constant without flickering. If the light is flickering, the sensors are not aligned properly.
Once the sensors are aligned, tighten the screws to hold them in place. Test the door to make sure that it opens and closes properly. If the door still isn't working properly, you may need to adjust the sensors again.
Here are some additional tips for aligning garage door sensors:
- Make sure that the sensors are clean. Dirt and debris can interfere with the sensors' ability to detect each other.
- If the sensors are still not working properly, you may need to replace them. Sensors can be damaged by weather or wear and tear.
- If you are not comfortable working on your garage door, you can hire a professional to align the sensors for you.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your garage door sensors are properly aligned and that your door is operating safely.
