How To Build A Garage Shelf

Garage shelves are a great way to organize your tools, equipment, and other belongings. They can help you maximize space and keep your garage clean and clutter-free. Building a garage shelf is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a few hours with basic tools and materials.

To build a garage shelf, you will need the following:

  • 1x12 pine boards (for the shelves)
  • 2x4 pine boards (for the supports)
  • 3/4-inch plywood (for the back)
  • 1-1/4-inch wood screws
  • 2-1/2-inch wood screws
  • Drill
  • Circular saw
  • Level
  • Clamps

Once you have gathered your materials, you can begin building your garage shelf.

Step 1: Cut the Boards

The first step is to cut the boards to length. The length of the boards will depend on the size of your garage and the space you have available. For the shelves, you will need to cut two boards that are 8 feet long. For the supports, you will need to cut four boards that are 3 feet long. For the back, you will need to cut a piece of plywood that is 8 feet long and 4 feet wide.

Step 2: Assemble the Supports

Once the boards are cut, you can begin assembling the supports. To do this, place two of the 3-foot boards on a flat surface, parallel to each other and 4 feet apart. Then, place the other two 3-foot boards on top of the first two boards, perpendicular to them and 2 feet apart. Secure the boards together with 2-1/2-inch wood screws.

Step 3: Attach the Back

Next, you need to attach the back to the supports. To do this, place the piece of plywood on the back of the supports and align it with the edges. Secure the plywood to the supports with 1-1/4-inch wood screws.

Step 4: Attach the Shelves

Now you can attach the shelves to the supports. To do this, place the shelves on top of the supports and align them with the edges. Secure the shelves to the supports with 2-1/2-inch wood screws.

Step 5: Finish the Shelf

Once the shelves are attached, you can finish the shelf by painting or staining it. You can also add a clear finish to protect the wood.

Your garage shelf is now complete! You can now use it to store your tools, equipment, and other belongings.
