How To Align The Sensors On A Garage Door

Garage door sensors are an important safety feature that helps to prevent the door from closing on people or objects. If the sensors are not properly aligned, the door may not close all the way or it may close too quickly, which could be dangerous. Aligning the sensors is a relatively simple process that can be done in a few minutes.

Tools you will need:

Phillips head screwdriver
Level
Measuring tape

Instructions:

Disconnect the power to the garage door opener. This can be done by unplugging the opener from the wall outlet or by turning off the circuit breaker that powers the opener.
Locate the sensors. The sensors are usually located on either side of the garage door, about 6 inches from the ground. They are typically white or gray in color and have a small LED light on them.
Check the alignment of the sensors. The sensors should be facing each other directly and should be level. To check the alignment, use a level to make sure that the sensors are level and that they are pointing directly at each other.
Adjust the sensors. If the sensors are not aligned, you will need to adjust them. To do this, loosen the screws that hold the sensors in place and move the sensors until they are aligned. Once the sensors are aligned, tighten the screws to hold them in place.
