Garage Door Will Not Shut

When your garage door refuses to shut, it can be a major inconvenience. Not only does it prevent you from accessing your garage, but it can also compromise the security of your home. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to troubleshoot the issue and get your garage door working properly again.

First, check to see if there is anything obstructing the door's path. This could be something as simple as a toy or a piece of furniture that has been left in the way. If there is an obstruction, remove it and try to close the door again.

If there is no obstruction, the next thing to check is the door's sensors. These sensors are located on either side of the door and they work together to ensure that the door does not close on anything or anyone. If one of the sensors is misaligned or damaged, it can prevent the door from closing. To check the sensors, simply look for a small, black box on either side of the door. If the sensors are misaligned, you can adjust them by loosening the screws that hold them in place and moving them until they are aligned. If the sensors are damaged, you will need to replace them.

If the sensors are not the problem, the next thing to check is the door's springs. The springs are what help to lift and lower the door, and if they are broken or damaged, the door will not be able to close properly. To check the springs, open the door halfway and then release it. If the door falls back down quickly, the springs are likely broken and will need to be replaced.

If the springs are not the problem, the next thing to check is the door's motor. The motor is what powers the door, and if it is not working properly, the door will not be able to close. To check the motor, simply listen for a humming sound when you try to close the door. If you do not hear a humming sound, the motor is likely not working and will need to be replaced.
