Garage Door Will Not Go Down

When your garage door refuses to go down, it can be a major inconvenience. There are several reasons why this might happen, and troubleshooting the issue can be a bit tricky. Here are some of the most common causes of a garage door that won't go down, along with some tips on how to fix them.

1. Power Outage

The most obvious reason why your garage door might not be going down is a power outage. Check to see if the lights in your garage are on. If they're not, then the power is out and you'll need to wait until it comes back on before you can try to open or close the door again.

2. Tripped Circuit Breaker

If the power is on but your garage door still won't go down, the circuit breaker may have tripped. A tripped circuit breaker is a safety feature that shuts off the power to a circuit if it detects an overload. To reset a tripped circuit breaker, simply flip the switch to the "off" position and then back to the "on" position.

3. Dead Battery

If your garage door opener has a battery, it may have died. A dead battery will prevent the opener from sending a signal to the door, which will prevent the door from going down. To replace the battery, simply open the battery compartment on the opener and replace the old battery with a new one.

4. Broken Gear

The gears in your garage door opener can break over time, which will prevent the door from going down. To check for a broken gear, open the opener and look for any gears that are cracked or broken. If you find a broken gear, you will need to replace it.

5. Misaligned Sensors

The sensors on your garage door are responsible for detecting when the door is closed. 6. Obstruction

7. Faulty Opener

If you have tried all of the above troubleshooting tips and your garage door still won't go down, the opener may be faulty. A faulty opener will need to be replaced. To replace the opener, simply disconnect the power to the opener and then remove the old opener from the ceiling. Install the new opener and reconnect the power.
