My Garage Door Remote Stopped Working

If your garage door remote has stopped working, there are a few things you can do to troubleshoot the issue and get it back up and running. Here are some of the most common causes of garage door remote failure and how to fix them:

Dead Batteries

The most common cause of garage door remote failure is dead batteries. To replace the batteries, simply remove the back cover of the remote and replace the old batteries with new ones of the same type. Be sure to dispose of the old batteries properly.

Damaged Antenna

The antenna on your garage door remote can become damaged over time, which can prevent it from sending a signal to the receiver. To check the antenna, simply bend it gently in different directions. If the remote starts working again, then the antenna is probably damaged and will need to be replaced.

Faulty Transmitter or Receiver

If you've replaced the batteries and checked the antenna but your garage door remote still isn't working, then the transmitter or receiver may be faulty. To test the transmitter, hold the remote up to your ear and press the button. You should hear a faint clicking sound. If you don't hear anything, then the transmitter is probably faulty and will need to be replaced.

To test the receiver, locate the receiver unit on your garage door opener and press the learn button. Then, press the button on your garage door remote. Interference

Interference from other electronic devices, such as cordless phones or microwaves, can sometimes prevent your garage door remote from working properly. To reduce interference, try moving your garage door opener and remote away from other electronic devices.

Frozen or Corroded Contacts

If you live in a cold climate, the contacts on your garage door opener and remote can become frozen or corroded, which can prevent them from making a good connection. To clean the contacts, simply use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Be sure to let the contacts dry completely before reattaching the remote.
